River Valley Hockey Association Eagle Hours Policy

XI.  Volunteer Policy

River Valley Hockey Association operates strictly on a volunteer basis. The RVHA relies on our members to keep us operating and running smoothly. All members of RVHA are required to perform a minimum amount of work each year and encouraged to volunteer additional services. This allows the RVHA to keep participation in its programs as affordable as possible. All RVHA families must understand that minimal requirements must be met to assure RVHA can function such as ice making, ice cleaning, snow removal, etc. If these tasks are not covered properly, RVHA will cancel activities. It is the responsibility of members to fulfill their Eagle hours commitment. Players may participate in work requirements and hours will be counted accordingly. Any deviation of these requirements must be approved by the RVHA Board of Directors.

1st year families:

--Perform 15 hours of service in an RVHA approved activity.

--All families are required to help clean up the grandstand one morning during the Polk County Fair.  A major part of our agreement with the Polk County Fairgrounds for use of their land is to clean up grandstand. There is a $50 buyout option for fair requirement.

County fair clean up:

--All families are required to help clean up the grandstand one morning during the Polk County Fair.  A major part of our agreement with the Polk County Fairgrounds for use of their land is to clean up grandstand.  Polk County Fair this year runs around the last week of July or first week of August.  Check RVHA website for exact times and dates.  Families who complete at least 20 hours of flooding will be exempt from fairground requirement.

Buyout options:

--All RVHA families will be given the choice of either working the required volunteer hours or choosing the buyout option. The buyout option is $25 per hour and must be paid at registration along with full registration fees. By choosing the buyout option the family does not have to complete the required Eagle hours.

--There is a $50 buyout option for fair requirement.

Submitting Hours:

Members will submit their hours to the email address eaglehours@gmail.com.  Once approved, you will receive confirmation of submitted hours.  Hours will be updated on website regularly. All hours worked above and beyond the minimal requirements should be submitted to the Eagle hours coordinator for recording. This allows us to properly assess the amount of time and effort we need to keep our association running properly. Any excess hours from one year cannot be carried over into another year.

Unfulfilled hours:

The Eagle hours year begins Sept. 1 of each year. On Sept. 1 of each year, the number of hours worked will be tallied and submitted to the RVHA board of directors for disposition. If the number of hours worked is less than the number of hours required, the family will be assessed a fee of $25 for each unfulfilled hour. Payment or RVHA board of directors approved arrangements for unfulfilled Eagle hours is mandatory prior to registration for the following season.

Approved activities:

Eagle hours work opportunities may include, but not be limited to the following:

Zamboni driver, flooding rink, concessions stand, skate sharpener, spring cleanup, fall cleanup, parade help, board meeting, grounds keeping, coach’s helper, team manager helper, snow removal, coaches meeting, recruiting, etc.

Essentially any activity that is performed at the interest of the RVHA may be included as Eagle hours. Also if you use your own equipment to perform snow removal or grass cutting activities, you may count the hours for your machine as well. If you have questions on your particular activity, it is your responsibility to clarify with the RVHA board of directors whether the activity may be counted.
